Japanese citizens must obtain an electronic visa to visit India - Requirements for Indian eVisa

Holders of Japanese passports who want to visit India can apply for an online visa, often known as an Indian eVisa. The three subcategories of the Indian visa for Japanese nationals are the Tourist e-Visa, Business e-Visa, and Medical e-Visa. Therefore, a Japanese national must apply for an Indian e-visa before departure if the trip is either for business, medical reasons, or tourism. Do holders of Japanese passports require a visa to enter India?

An eVisa is required for admission into India for Japanese nationals. The applicant must have a passport that is valid for at least six (6) months beyond the anticipated date of arrival in India before submitting an eVisa application. 

The applicant's passport must include at least two (2) blank pages so that border control officials can stamp the applicant's immigration status both upon entry and upon departure. The kind of India eVisa determines the duration of the visa. 

For an e-business visa, the visit cannot go longer than 180 days. Japanese nationals who hold a business visa for India have a one (1) -year validity period starting on the date of approval. 

However, a Japanese citizen's e-tourist visa to India may have a validity period of up to 180 days.

Last but not least, Japanese nationals can enter India for 60 days using an e-medical visa.

Japanese citizens who have applied for an Indian eVisa are required to keep a copy of their approved electronic Indian visa on them at all times while they are in India in order to prevent legal issues.

  1. Start by completing the Indian visa application form.
  2. Online eVisa payment is required after completing the application. After this, all that is left to do is check your email for any further updates or information from the website. To speed up the processing of your Indian visa, further papers may be required from you.
  3. eVisa Approval: Within 2 (two) to 4 (four) working days, check your email inbox.

    After approval, applicants must take the following actions:

    • Get email notifications when your visa is approved.
    • Print it out in advance of the trip to India.

    When you arrive in India, be sure to have the above-mentioned documentation ready to provide to immigration officials together with your visa.

  4. Obtain a stamp at the border. Immigration will stamp your Indian visa either at the airport or the port of entry.

    The entry-designated airports covered by the Indian visa for Japanese nationals include Ahmedabad, Delhi, Gaya, Lucknow, and more. Seaports include those in Chennai and Goa. India must be reached before your eVisa expires.

Which Ports of Entry Have Been Approved for International travelers?

A traveller may enter India at any of the authorised airports or designated seaports after getting an electronic visa. However, visitors may leave through any of the authorised Immigration Check Posts scattered around the nation (ICPs).

Since using an eVisa for this purpose is forbidden, anyone who wants to enter India through land inspections is urged to get in touch with the nearest Indian embassy or consulate. As a result, visitors from Japan would need a new kind of visa.
